About Marie

Marie Brown Artist Studio

Art has always been my ‘thing’!  It was the subject I enjoyed most and excelled at in school.  I pursued my love of Art through to college and I went on to study an Art & Design Foundation Course, intended to lead onto University.  Drawing is what I enjoyed above everything else, and it was suggested by my tutor that I consider a Fine Art or Drawing Degree.  Perhaps, I should have taken that advice, but I could not see a career ahead of me ‘just drawing!’

I decided to take my chances in the big wide world, hoping to find a job within the creative industry.  I had a brief spell in graphic design, but I finally settled in a job working as an ‘Embroidery Digitizer.’  Fortunately, this is similar to drawing, but on a computer!  When it was required, I leapt at the chance to create the animal embroideries. Instead of pencil strokes, stitches are used to replicate fur, right up my street! !

My love of art and animals came together.

After some years I picked up the pencil again, and taking inspiration from my love of animals, I realised my potential was linked to drawing what I was passionate about.  I practiced drawing in my spare time, with a new found ambition to become an Animal Artist! Fast forward a few more years and I was drawing commissioned pieces and selling prints of my work!  Eventually what started out as a hobby became a side business alongside my embroidery job.

Since then i’ve had two lovely children so my Art was something I just fitted in around work and family life. It was my long term goal to pursue Art professionally, and in 2020 I was finally able to commit to my Art full time.  I feel incredibly lucky to have turned my hobby into my profession.

It was pencil that captured my love of art, but more recently I ventured into the wonderful world of colour.  I like to experiment with different media and styles alongside my pencil work, I enjoy using watercolour & pastels.  This keeps my work fresh and keeps me excited about the art I create.  I never stop learning and I always enjoy discovering new ways to make beautiful art.
